It is estimated that
3-5 million Americans suffer from lymphedema.

Lymphedema is often misdiagnosed or undiagnosed. Delays in diagnosis or treatment can result in rapid and unchecked progression of the disease.

Lymphedema is a chronic disease that results in a build up of lymph fluid (swelling) that occurs when the lymphatic system is either faulty or damaged.

There is no cure for lymphedema, but it can be effectively treated:

  • Drainage

  • Compression

  • Exercise

  • Massage

Over time, lymphedema (especially if poorly treated)
often results in number of complications including:

  • Infections

  • Disfigurement

  • Pain

  • Disability

In addition to swelling, symptoms of lymphedema include:

  • Tingling

  • Numbness

  • Achiness

  • Feelings of fullness and tightness

  • Changes in skin

Lymphedema (swelling) can look different for different people. But all edema is lymphedema.

Lymphedema can be:

  • An extremity or area of the body lacking typical anatomical structure

  • Clear liquid seeping from the skin with or without the presence of a wound

  • Present following any type of surgery or removal of lymph nodes for biopsy

  • Hard, tough, discolored, 'angry-looking' skin

We can treat all types of lymphedema anywhere in the body including primary lymphedema (present as a child), lipedema, lymphedema with wound(s)/blisters present, lymphedema from dependency/lack of movement, weeping associated with lymphedema, edema following mastectomy, swelling with pregnancy, post-surgical edema (including cosmetic surgery), and more.
